Reading Response

Now that I already finished reading The Mediator, I found another interesting book called Twilight. I just went to see the movie based on this book and it inspired me so much that I could not resist to try to read the story that comes straight from the book. Sometimes movies cut some part and details off and I just wanted to find some more information about the charactors. It caught me off gaurd that almost every book stores have been running out of this book. There are four books of this story and I am reading the first one right at this moment. Twilight is extremely famous and is the number one New York Times bestseller worldwide.
The book is about an ordinary girl who just moved to stay with his father in Forks, Washington because her mother is remarried with a guy who travels too much. She failed in love with the most handsome guy ever whose name is Edward Cullen. He is a vampire who stuck in a seventeen years old boy but he is actually one hundred and ten years now. She knew that he was different from normal people but she did not know that he is happened to be a vampire. He is pretty dangerous to stay around with but she does not mind to be with him because of the love. She even wants to be a vampire so that she can spend the rest of her life with him forever. But he does not think that it is such a good idea to change her to be a monster like him. He wants her to have a normal life just like everybody else in this world.
I found a connection here that sometimes when you love someone, you want the best for that person and forget to try to understand what that person really wants. This relationship between Isbella and Edward is similar to the relationship of me and my mother. She always wants the excellent choice for me. For example, eduacation is the first priority for me. SHe chose one of the best international schools in Thaialnd for me, even though it costs about a million bath to have an opportunity to learn in this school.

Second Readng Response

Susannah strongly believes that her mother is the best teacher. Susannah found out that teachers at school don’t have enough ability to control her as much as her mother does have. For me, I extremely agree with Susannah that mother is the best teacher. Firstly, mother never stops trying to teach us. Second, mother teaches about life not just academics.

My experience with my mother proved to me that mother never stops trying to teach us. Susannah’s mother is very protective and loves her daughter so much. My mother also extremely loves me and always wants the best for me. In the story, Susannah just moved to her new house and also new life. She had a problem learning at school and this situation brought her grade down. Susannah’s mother didn't put much pressure on Susannah at all. Instead. She understood Susannah well and wanted to help Susannah. My experience can also related to her experience. Every time that I did something wrong or fail the test. My mother would understand and try to help me get through all the tough barriers. My mother can always finds the ways to improve myself because she knows every single detail about my weakness and strength. My mother tells me things about my mistakes that others won’t bother or care to tell me because she wants me to be a better person. She is the one who is always there when I have nobody and willing to give a hand no matter what the situations are.

Moreover, my mother always teaches me about things that cannot be taught at school such as manner and the way of viewing things. This experience can refer to the experience of Susannah. Her mother said, “Be careful when you talk Susannah,” This shows that her mother taught her about manners that most teachers at school wouldn't spend much time teach Susannah about this manner. My mother usually talks about general things like her old experiences that life is not easy as math or science questions that can be solved by formulas. Instead, she told me that life is very complex and she wants me to learn not only at school but also outside of school as well. Susannah has this idea in her mind too. She let her mother knows that she wants to work after school, so she can have more experience. My mother often tries to make me watch television and read newspaper, so I can have more experience. Susannah and I don’t have much in common because she can work and earn money, but I cannot work because I’m too young to do it in Thailand. However, experiences from newspaper and television provide me a wider vision of the world than sitting in the classroom reading old textbooks.

First Reading Response "The Mediator"

I do love what I am reading because it’s a fun story about a sixteen-year-old girl. Her name is Susannah Simon who seems normal enough just like American teenage girl. Except, for the fact that she is a mediator and she can talk to the dead. It sounds interesting and exciting for me that she is able to do something like that. I kept reading this story because It made my reading skills better, got more new words. I actually want to know what is going to happen next in the story. She lived in New York City in her whole life but her mom got married again with a California guy. So she had to move to California to start a new life with her mom and a new family. There is a hot guy in her new bedroom but he is a ghost. She wants him to leave but I don’t know yet that would he be leaving or staying. I like this story because it’s not too difficult to read and not too old-fashion. I also like how she is not scared of the ghost, she is very brave and she is not selfish. For the first example, she says “I am not the kind of girl who’s looking to share her room with a member of the opposite sex. Understand me?” (p. 50) when she was trying to get a ghost guy out of her bedroom. She made it clear that she doesn't want to live with a ghost or someone she doesn't know very well. For another example, she says “It’s great. I love it here Mom” (p.36) when she’s making her mom believe that she’s alright because her mom was sort of worried about asking Susannah to leave her Grandma and her best friends to move to California. Actually, Susannah never wanted to live New York at all because it is the only place that she spent whole life in and a lot of unforgettable memories happenned there. But she doesn't want her mom to get nervous or worry so she’s willing to do anything that her mom is asking for. I think what will happen next is Susannah can adjust herself in a new society and make friends in a new High School. However, she is definitely going to face with all the ghosts who need her help in the future.

Sixth Reading Response

According to The It Girl, Ziegesar talks about a girl, Jenny, who attended a new boarding school. She was very homesick and wanted to go home to see her mother. Jenny’s mother is very important to her. Jenny told her mother almost everything at her new school because she wanted her mother to figure things out. Jenny respected her mother very much. She wanted to be just like her mother who is very tough and strong. I found a connection for this situation.
Since I was just a young girl, I always wanted to be like my mother. She’s everything I would like to be when I grow up. My mother is a very hard-working person. She always tries her best to achieve her goals and put a lot of effort which often pay off. She does so many jobs such as an editor of fashion magazine, journalist, public relations and also a clothing designer. With so much work to do, she always finds the way to spend some time with me and my family. I am very glad to have her as a mother and I will do anything to make her proud.
Jenny got a lot of stressed after attending a new school. She found it very hard to adapt her characteristic with others people who mostly have been here before she has. Sometimes, she got really depressed and tired to keep her feelings inside. She didn’t have much fun in the first few days because of the new changes and different barriers she hasn’t faced before. First, she tried to make new friends but others made fun of her and treated her very bad by showing their rudeness. I also found this as a connection for my own experience.
Even though I am quite an easy-going and laid back person, I sometimes find myself frustrated or annoyed over little matters. There are three main things which can easily upset me. First, when people make fun of me. I find this very rude and mean to make fun of others because it doesn’t only make others feel bad, but also themselves. A nice person will respect and treat other people nicely. Moreover, I also get angry when people ignore me. I don’t like to be treated like I’m unimportant or invisible. The last thing that makes me angry the most is when people judge me. I hate when people criticize someone from the way they look rather than their personalities. These behaviors are the most things that make me very angry.

Fifth Independent Reading

Now that I'm done reading my book which is The It Girl. I found some more interesting quotations to share my personal point of view.
1. “It’s good to know the history of the place where you’re living.” Doc said (p.63)
I chose this quote because I agree with his idea. I would like to know the history of the place where I’m living. I think people should learn about their cultures as I born and have grown in Bangkok which in Thai means the city of angel and I’m proud to born in this city that has a heritage of precious culture.
2. “So you were being purposefully rude.” Jenny said. (p.83)
I chose this quote because I don’t like the face that someone is being rude to other people and don’t treat people in a good way. I agree with Jenny that she tells another girl that she was being rude because I like when Jenny wanted to tell another girl that it’s not right to do something mean. I think that’s cool
3. “This is dreadful.” Father Dominic said (p.87)
I chose this quote because I don’t like the feeling of dreadful. It sounds so bad, terrible and ridiculous. I don’t like to be in the kind of serious situation and I don’t want more pressure.
4. “It was a cool, clear night. The moon was full.” Jesse said. (p.99)
I chose this quote because I can imagine the picture of chilly night, fresh air, clear and dark sky. I just love it. I like cold weather better than warm weather because it makes me feel so great, cheerful and fresh. I like being outside at night. I think it is very romantic and perfect when the moon is full.
5. “Thank you. God. I think you must have saved my life.” Bryce said (p.102)
I chose this quote because I think it’s good if someone helped you get through the hard time and then you say thank you. I think it’s just something that we have to do after someone did something for us by no one’s telling us to do or at least I think it’s a manner. It would be very rude if we don’t do say thank you to others.

Fourth Independent Reading

The reading is about a girl who transferred to another school during sophomore year and it related to one of my experiences because I also transferred to a new school two years ago in Wisconsin, America from Bangkok, Thailand. Everyone wants to know about the new girl which is Jenny. She became very famous in a very short period of time. I also was the only one Thai girl in my grade so they were kind of interested in me. They came to talk to me and they wanted to know about me and about Thailand. My teacher told me that I was the topic conversation of the day. It surprised me that I was there just the first day but they all wanted to know me because maybe I came from the different country and culture.
In the story, the first day of Jenny was just like mine. Everyone wants to know about her and her life in New York. For Example, “God, you’ve only been at the Mission one day, and already you’re the most popular girl in school!” Easy said. (p.115). It shows that everyone was paying attention to her.
For another example is when one of my new friends whose name is Sarah, she called me after school of the first day just to let me know that she thinks I’m interesting and she wanted to do something fun with me same as in the reading when one of Jenny’s friends called her and said, “Hey Jenny! It’s Becca. I have been thinking we should hang out this weekend. What do you think girl?” This proves that she has the same experience like me.

Third Reading Response

After I read more than haf of The It Girl book, I would like to share some thoughts. I have three quotations from my independent reading book to share for the third reading response.
1. “Jenny feels only the tiniest speck of remorse for being so mean.”
I don’t like the fact that if someone did something wrong and they don’t realized that it’s not a good thing to do or say and keep telling themselves that they are good people but the truth is they are bad people. They just don’t want to believe that they are bad and what they did is wrong because sometimes when we do bad things and we think it is kind of fun and then we just forget about what we did wrong and start to do it again without any concerns.
2. “Face it! We’re all the same” Jenny said.
I agree with this quote, I think everyone is equal. Nobody is better than anybody. We all humans who make mistakes and learned by their mistakes. We all have goals in our lives and need to survive no matter what. Many people don’t believe that others are just the same like them.
3. “Her parents certainly expected her to go to one of the best schools. Not that they put any pressure on her, but it went without saying.”
I don’t like the fact that teenagers these days have so much pressure on them of getting good grade and attending to great school. It’s something that everyone has to do and can’t deny. It’s like rules in a life that nobody can escape but even though we do escape, we are going to have a really bad life.
